Critical & Post-Surgical Care at Home

Critical and Post-Surgical Care at Home in Nairobi – From Hospital Bed to Full Recovery

The first weeks after major surgery or an ICU stay are when patients are most vulnerable. Wounds can become infected, blood clots can form, pain can stop a patient moving, and a missed warning sign can mean readmission. Makao Home Care provides critical and post-surgical care at home in Nairobi: nurses experienced in critical care, wound management and early rehabilitation who take over from the hospital team and see your loved one safely through recovery.

We care for patients stepping down from ICU or HDU, patients on tracheostomy or home ventilation, and patients recovering from orthopaedic, abdominal, cardiac, neurological, gynaecological and caesarean surgery.

Pre-Discharge Checklist

Is the Home Ready?

Before your loved one leaves hospital, our coordinator checks:

  • Discharge summary, prescriptions and follow-up appointments
  • Home safety (space, power, clean water, safe access)
  • Medications and consumables available
  • Equipment arranged (bed, oxygen, ventilator, suction machine, mattress, etc.)
  • Care plan agreed with the hospital team
  • Clear contact numbers for our care team
  • Nurse and/or physiotherapist scheduled
  • Family training arranged where needed

How It Works

Getting Started Is Simple

  1. Share the discharge plan

Send us the discharge summary or talk us through the procedure. We call the care team where needed.

  2. Nurse and equipment ready

We match a registered nurse and arrange any beds, oxygen or supplies before you get home.

  3. Recover with close monitoring

Your nurse follows the plan, keeps a daily log, and we step care down as recovery progresses.
